An Event is an action or occurrence that can be detected. Events can be actions or they can be occurrences.
A definition of an event may therefore be "any detectable or discernable occurrence that has significance.
An event can be described as a public assembly for the purpose of celebration, education, marketing or reunion. Events can be classified on the basis of their size, type and context.
Examples of event are:
- Social / life - cycle events such as events like a Birthday party, Hen/Stag party, Graduation day, Bachelor's party, Engagement, Wedding, Anniversary, Retirement day, Funeral etc.
- Education and career events such as an education fair, job fair, workshop, seminar, debate, contest, competition etc.
- Sports events such as the Olympics, World Cup, marathons, Wimbledon, wrestling matches or football games.
- Entertainment events such as a music concerts, fairs, festivals, fashion shows, award functions, celebrity nights, beauty pageants, flash mob, jewelry shows, stage shows etc.
- Political events such as a political procession, demonstration, rally or a political function.
- Corporate events which could include meetings, product launches, road shows or buyer-seller meetings.
- Religious events which could include a religious festivals / fairs, religious procession, Katha, Pravachan, Diwali fair, Dusherra fair or any other religious ceremony.
- Fund raising related events could be an auctions for example.
